What is Bronze?

Bronze is a copper alloy, normally mixed with tin.  It is a durable metal used for a variety of purposes such as statuary and machine parts.  Bronze has been used for memorials and plaques for many years and continues to be used as it has great durability.  Bronze naturally surface oxidizes, meaning the surface, when in contact with oxygen, will form a thin layer of oxidation which will protect the metal from further corrosion.  This is why many times you will see a bronze plaque that has turned green.  Today, almost all bronze plaques are treated with a clear-coat to prevent the bronze from turning green.  If the clear coat wears off, the bronze can be re-finished to it's original color.

Many cemeteries require that you purchase a bronze marker.  For many years bronze plaques were limited to a "cast" product.  Cast products use a mold to form the plaque.  This limited the design capabilities of using bronze.  Today, using the latest in technology, we can now produce "engraved" bronze.  With engraved bronze a solid sheet of bronze is used and the design is machined.  This has provided almost endless design possibilities.  Our manufactures can now create bronze plaques even in full color!
